Rough day at South Point

We drove down to South Point, the SOUTHERNMOST PART OF THE US of A, last Sunday to use our 4x4 to go out to the Green Sand Beach (GSB). At the end of our trip, we went over to the cliff area where one can usually jump off 50ft into calm tranquil waters. Not that day, the waves were surging, wind was blowing inland from the ocean and there were whitecaps all over the place.
I had never seen the waters so rough. Usually the surge might lift you about 5 ft up if you are in the water. Last Sunday, the waves surges were almost clearing the tops of the cliffs, from 50 ft below! It was high wind and whitecaps.

FYI, the photo of me is where I am standing on the platform that the metal ladders are bolted to that go down to the water. This is usually used by those brave/stupid enough to jump to climb back up from the ocean. They are a little shaky and not completely bolted to the side of the cliff so they sway a bit when you are climbing back up. It just adds to the spice and not for the faint of heart.

Water World

One of the pleasures of living in Hawaii is the good scuba diving in WARM waters just offshore. I went with my friend Scott yesterday in the afternoon and we swam to an underwater cave and arch.

Here is a photo of me in the cave looking out. We actually got into the cave from a hole in the ceiling.
