Miso Pepper Vinagrette

/

Recipe #1
Here is a fabulous recipe for a salad dressing that I had at the Four Seasons in Hawaii.

1.5 oz ground black pepper
9.0 0z white miso
0.5 oz chopped ginger
0.5 oz chaopped garlic
6.0 oz soy sauce or braggs
1.5 oz sesame oil
4.0 oz rice vinegar
1.0 oz white chili pepper
1.5 oz salad oil

I did not have all the ingrdients wheen I made this dressing, but just used whatever I had and still still tasted fantastic. Obviously, the miso, vinegar and pepper are must have ingredients. We made a largr bottle of it and last nite, I put it on top of pan-friend fish and that was good also.

It’s TO DIE FOR

PS If you make this, let me know how you like it.

Free lobster dinner

A friend of mine told me that there were a few spots locally where one can dive for lobsters (at nite) and just pick them off the bottom and fill a bag with them. I have not done any nite diving or snorkeling yet, so that would be a challenge. All those fears about shark attacks probably come up when you are in totally black water. I still get that panic attack feeling when I am swimming in deep water and wonder if there is a shark shooting up from the depths.

Going to the Art Show

Here are photos taken of the coastline from the lanai of the house we went to for an art show on Friday afternoon. This was up in Kawaihae, above the harbor where a couple have created a botanical garden with exotic plants and wildlife.

Below are photos of Barbara, who invited us and is our closest friend in Kona. She is a wonder and even catered all the food for the event and created the artwork behind her.

Painting is her hobby, but now her teacher has asked all the students to put their artwork up for sale as professionals would do.

And a shot of Hualalai Mtn from the lanai.

Pot of Gold

Then again, I could perceive it as having already found the pot of gold when I can wake up in the morning and see rainbows out my window. It’s going to be a special day.

So we are having dinner last Tues nite with our very good friends, Rolf and Sheila down at Bubba Gump's. Wonderful table next to the ocean and even got to see the "green flash" when the sun went down. They fit here in Hawaii and I know Madame Pele would smile on them if they decided to move here.

And here we are, waiting for the sunset and our wonderful dinner. Sheila had the large glass of beer.

Postcard from Hawaii

/

My friends back on the Mainland always got a kick when I sent them a postcard from Hawaii. So if the 12 people on my life plan group, or others, would like to receive a postcard from Hawaii, send me you address, or PO Box and I will get one out to you. This is NOT some marketing scam and I promise not to use your addresses to try and sell you anything. I can do THAT just on this site. So if anyone would like a postcard from Hawaii, send an email to kunahuna@hotmail.com.

Aloha and a hui ho…..

Mauna Kea

Sunday, we took a trip up to Mauna Kea hoping to see more snow since it rained down here recently. Most of the snow had melted but we did drive up to the top and viewed the outside of a few observatories before altitude sickness/nausea forced us to go down sooner than planned.
(Click on any photo for a larger version)

We did stay for some time at the 9000 ft level where the Visitor's Center was and then drove out to an area where we could have picnics (when it is warm and sunny) and climb the cinder cone behind us. We took Mike and Leilani with us who are friends from the same condo complex we live in.

Here is another example of the stunning views that are available from Mauna Kea. This was with another friend from Arizona visiting in 2005

Creating an intentional community

/

Well, it would seem to me that human being have been in the business of creating communities/villages thru out the history of the human race. Those groups were formed for mutual defense and survival. In modern times, people can set an intention on who they want to live around and the type of environment they want to create.
So my intentional community of old souls (from the Michael Teachings education system) would be a group of people who want to be surrounded by like minded people who are non-judgmental of each other (as much as we can be) and averse to meddling in other people’s business. I live in communities where some feel like it is their duty to go around and chronicle all the violations of their neighbors and report them to whatever authorities are around. A community of old souls would not want to spend their time looking for the faults in other people, but respect and appreciate each person’s contribution and value.
As in any community, conflict and disagreements would arise and I envision a community where conflicts are resolved with indiviuals taking responsibility for their issues and not trying to blame someone else. We have far too much of that in the world already. I feel that people are locked into living in modern cities, suburbs and sprawl because there are very few alternatives to that model. Most lists of the best places to live almost always consider the quality of life, safety for children and adults, and knowing others in the community. So I would envision such a community, maybe many such communities around the world where people form bonds of friendship and can even swap homes with their friends and live elsewhere to get a break and meet new people.

Artsy fartsy stuff

Here, I have taken some elements of other artwork and incorporated it into a piece with myself using Photoshop. It was fun and I will soon publish one with Debbie and later with another friend of ours, Barbara.

Update on our Waikoloa House

Progress on our house up in Waikoloa! They have finally started putting on the external walls and it is beginning to look like a habitable house. We went up on Saturday and stopped by after our volunteer work with the Civil Air Patrol. We had to simulate a crashed airplane with a transponder giving off a signal and the CAP flight 28 found us after about a 30 minute search.

Here is a shot of the back of the house with the ocean view. Starting to look better and better.

Here is the site of our simulated silver and blue airplane that crashed in Waikoloa with the transponder nearby.

Saturday Nite Pot Luck

Here are photos of the gourmet group at Alii Lani. We have a pot luck every Saturday nite down at the pool, rain or shine. Last nite, it was rain, but we got to set up in the Community Room and get in out of the rain. Altho some of the cooking was down in partial rain. It's a good thing that we had help, from our former Alii Lani residents visiting again from Florida, Sheila and Rolf. Sheila is on the right and Eleanor is next to her. Eleanor and Don brought the ribs to celebrate Don's birthday.

Speaking of celebrations, here is Don opening up a bottle of bubbly contributed by Michael.

Here are two of the gourmands, serving themselves from the buffet table. The menu included paella, jalapeno corn bread, twice baked potatoes, two green salads, a shrimp salad, pork ribs, pork tenderloin, huli huli chicken and of course, birthday carrot cake.

We continue the tradition and all those who are friends of the people in our little group are always welcome back for our potlucks, even those who live in faraway Michigan or Florida.

Aloha....
