Offering to Pele

Last week, we decided it was time to make another offering to Madame Pele at Volcanoes National Park. Here we are at one of the museums that overlook the main crater of the volcano. This one is dormant now, but there are vents that are constantly releasing lava that flows into the ocean down near the shoreline. We are currently at the 4000 ft level near the top of the park. We drove down to the rim of the crater where there are steam vents oozing out steam and giving us direct access to Madame Pele.

Here I am down on the rim making my offering of gin to Pele. You can see other steam vents off in the distance.

If you stay until after dark and drive the 45 minutes down to the coastline, you can sometimes be treated to a view of the lava flowing into the ocean. (Or, you can download the photos from the Volcanoes National Park website).
